EQUINE ASSISTED LEARNING

Equine therapy

Equines are sentient beings with feelings, thoughts, emotions, memories, and empathetic abilities.  Equines can be active facilitators, evoking emotions in those who work with and around them.  Horses will attune to the clients and pay attention to their emotional state and body language.  Horses actually listen to us at a much different and deeper level.  The horse responds in the moment, to the current connection.

Using the FEEL technique (Facilitated Equine Experiential Learning)®  the participant is in the center of their own experience with the horse as the teacher.  Our practitioner facilitates their learning by providing observation and feedback.

Using mindfulness techniques, people learn more effectively as they find their own answers from within instead of seeking answers from an expert.  The horses go straight to the heart of the matter and bring about positive change.

The horses engage us in Experiential Learning – learning by doing. It is a process through which individuals gain knowledge, acquire skills, and enhance values from direct experience.

It has been said that horse-assisted learning can effect change more rapidly.  One of the reasons that instead of actively seeking to intellectually resolve past issues, new patterns of thoughts, feelings, and somatic experiences are being created and strengthened.

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is a series of techniques that encourage both human + horse interaction, communication, and bond building the brings about growth and change in the human. It is often referred to as Equine Assisted Therapy or Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.

Absolutely not. EAL is involves unmounted techniques. This means that you will not be riding the horse, but rather interacting from the ground.

No horse riding experience is necessary.

Absolutely. Our EAL sessions are availabe for anyone 5 or older. We offer kid day camps, teen camps, group / corporate sessions, and even private classes for those seeking a one-on-one experience.

Equine therapy dates back to the times when horses were used for therapeutic riding in ancient Greek literature. Orbasis of ancient Lydia documented the therapeutic value of riding in 600 B.C. In 1946, Equine Therapy was introduced in Scandinavia after an outbreak of poliomyelitis.

The Unbridled Discovery Farm is located in Dewdney, BC.

Of course! While many of the sessions will overlap in terms of material the best learning experience comes from repetition and practice with the animals. In order to experience fullest therapeautic benefits we recommend multiple sessions to help both you and horse build a deep connection.
