EQUINE ASSISTED LEARNING FOR teens

teens at the barn

Being a teenager isn’t always easy. Invite your teen to take a break from the constant stimulation of their electronics and spend some time reconnecting with themselves. Our teen sessions are conducted on the farm alongside our farm animals and, of course, the horses. The teenages will be taught basic horsemanship skills like horse care, grooming, body language, parts of the horse, etc.

Under the guidance of Sherrie, our certified FEEL (Facilitated Equine Experiential Learning) ® practitioner, with horses as the teachers, teens will learn essential skills such as:

  • setting healthy boundaries
  • relationship development
  • mindfulness
  • communication
  • emotional awareness
  • leadership

We recommend that teens arrive dressed for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring a lunch.

Your teen will learn how to disconnect from social media and re-connect with nature. Through group learning we teach them how to interact with horses, how to create boundaries with animals, and what life is like living on a farm.

While we encourage parents pick-up and drop-off at the scheduled times, we can accommodate those that need the extra time for an additional cost. Please communicate this with Sherrie in advance.

Absolutely. Your teenager will be monitored by an adult at all times and will be given clear instructions on how to interact with the animals. All of our animals are very friendly and gentle.

No. We encourage parents to ensure their teenagers have an adequate lunch and snack so they have something to eat come lunch time.

The Unbridled Discovery Farm is located in Dewdney, BC.

36936 McKamey Rd, Mission, BC V2V 6T1

Of course! While many of the sessions will overlap in terms of material the best learning experience comes from repetition and practice with the animals. Teens love building long-term friendships with the farm animals so frequent visits (sessions or camps) are certainly encouraged!
